Welding Technology

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE:

The mission of the Welding Technology Program is to prepare students for employment in a variety of occupations in the welding industry.

PROGRAM CONTENT:

This course includes specialized classroom and practical experience in the cutting and joining of metal parts through the application of intense heat, using gas and electric welding equipment. Applications include oxyacetylene welding (OAW), fusion and non-fusion welding, shield metal arc welding (GMAW).

The skills for cutting metal include OAW (flame cutting) equipment and plasma arc cutting equipment. Related skills include print reading and layout, metal identification and math. Content also includes use and care of hand tools, power tools, specialized tools and equipment, safe and effective work practices and use of current industry standards, practices and techniques. The course/program also provides supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in these occupations.

** Welding Technology is a core program. It is recommended that students successfully complete Welding Technology or demonstrate mastery of the outcomes in that program prior to enrollment in the Welding Technology – Advanced program.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

• 16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in any K-12 program
• Create update profile information on Focus
• Occupational Interest
• Meet with a counselor
• No specific requirement for Information Technology 

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS:

The entire program is 1050 hours, but student can earn a certificate upon completion of the following OCPs:

Minimum basic-skills grade levels required for awarding a Full Program Completion Certificate are 9th grade in Math, Reading, and Language on the TABE® test, or passing of an Industry Certification. Additional information can be provided by student services.

Students are expected to complete program competencies.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Completion of a Technical program at an eligible institution is preferred.

SALARY:

The average wage for this career in Florida is $21.05 hourly or $43,780 annually.

FINANCIAL AID:

Financial aid is available to those who qualify. Applicants must have a high school diploma from an accredited High School, or its equivalent. PROGRAM COST:

• In-state residents – $2.56 per hour (Subject to change)
• Out of state resident – $10.25 per hour (Subject to change)
• $15.00 application fee per trimester
• Material fee – Varies by program
• Identification fee – $5.00 per trimester
• Liability insurance fee – Varies by program
• Students must purchase books/kits and/or uniforms, if applicable

PROGRAM HOURS:

• Monday – Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
• Friday from 5:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
• Monday – Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
